SyntaxCue vs LockedIn AI: Review, Pricing, and Refund Terms Compared

LockedIn AI and SyntaxCue both give you real-time answer suggestions during a technical interview, but they’re built on opposite models. LockedIn AI is a managed, cloud-based subscription with a broad feature set — 42 languages, a mock-interview practice mode, an adjustable-transparency overlay, and a “Duo” mode that brings a live human helper into your session. SyntaxCue is a focused, one-time $79 purchase (a 6-month license, no auto-renewal) that transcribes audio locally on your machine and uses your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key. If you want the widest feature set and a managed cloud experience, LockedIn AI is likely the better fit; if you want a fixed price, local processing, and control over your own AI costs, SyntaxCue is. One disclosure up front: we have not personally tested LockedIn AI. Everything below is drawn from LockedIn AI’s own public pages and documented third-party reviews — not hands-on use.

Where LockedIn AI is ahead

Three real advantages, and none of them are throwaways — for the right person, any one could be decisive.

Far broader language and practice support. LockedIn AI supports 42 languages, including regional accent and dialect handling, and includes a built-in Mock Interview Simulator for rehearsing beforehand. SyntaxCue is English-first and has no rehearsal or practice mode at all. If you interview in a language other than English, or you want to practice inside the same tool you’ll use live, LockedIn AI does things SyntaxCue simply doesn’t.

Adjustable overlay transparency. LockedIn AI lets you tune the transparency of its on-screen overlay as a built-in visual customization. SyntaxCue’s hint window is a fixed opaque panel by design — a deliberate choice, but if you specifically want a semi-transparent, tunable overlay, LockedIn AI offers it and SyntaxCue does not.

LockedIn Duo (human-in-the-loop help). LockedIn AI’s Duo (Remote Assist) lets you invite a live human helper into a private session, with text and code sharing, live screen and audio streaming, and voice coaching. SyntaxCue is AI-only and has no human-in-the-loop feature of any kind. If having a trusted person able to assist in real time matters to you, that’s a genuine capability SyntaxCue doesn’t have.

Where SyntaxCue is ahead

A fixed, one-time price. SyntaxCue is $79 once for a 6-month license — you know the total before you buy, and there’s no auto-renewal. LockedIn AI is a recurring subscription whose price, at our last check, was promotional (see the pricing section). A single known number versus a recurring, promo-dependent subscription is a real difference for anyone who wants to know exactly what they’re committing to.

Local processing. SyntaxCue transcribes audio on your own machine and keeps no backend in the audio path. LockedIn AI is a managed/cloud product. If keeping your interview audio off a vendor’s servers matters to you, that’s a structural difference, not a setting.

Bring your own key. With SyntaxCue you supply your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key and pay the provider directly, at cost, and you choose the model. LockedIn AI is managed cloud — it markets access to “Latest OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, and other leading models,” but you don’t bring your own key and can’t reduce cost by supplying one.

Refund terms. SyntaxCue’s refund is 14 days with no conditions. LockedIn AI’s monthly and quarterly plans are non-refundable once started — details below.

Pricing and billing model

LockedIn AI is a subscription, billed monthly or quarterly. At our last check (a direct screenshot of lockedinai.com/pricing on 2026-07-29), it was promo-priced at $54.99/mo on the monthly plan and $39.99/mo on the 3-month plan — both discounted from a list price of $109.98/mo, via a limited-time promo with a countdown timer. Treat those figures as “as of our last check,” not a guaranteed current price: they were promotional, and promos expire, so verify the live price on LockedIn AI’s own pricing page before deciding. LockedIn AI has also been reported to offer a one-time “lifetime” plan, but that figure is aggregator-sourced and we couldn’t confirm it directly, so we’re not putting a number on it.

SyntaxCue, by contrast, is a single fixed number: $79 once for a 6-month license, no auto-renewal. While it’s active, your only other cost is your own API usage (BYOK), billed directly by your provider at their rates — usage-based and under your control. That’s the core pricing contrast: a fixed one-time cost versus a recurring subscription whose real price depends on whatever promo is (or isn’t) running.

Refund terms

LockedIn AI’s refund policy (verified directly on lockedinai.com/refund-policy, 2026-07-28): monthly and quarterly subscriptions are non-refundable once started — you can cancel to stop future billing, but the current period you’ve already paid for is not refunded or credited. Annual subscriptions get a partial refund only if canceled within 7 days of purchase. Billing errors — duplicate charges, undelivered access, an incorrect charge after cancellation — are handled separately and must be reported within 7 days of the transaction.

SyntaxCue’s refund is 14 days, no hoops — no proof-of-defect requirement, no non-refundable current period, and no auto-renewal to be caught out by (the license runs 6 months at a time; renewing after that is a manual $79 purchase, not an automatic charge).

Screen-share and the overlay

Both tools show a real-time answer to you during an interview, but they describe that behavior very differently. LockedIn AI markets its overlay heavily around concealment: its homepage headline calls it a “Fully Hidden & Undetectable AI Interview Assistant,” and its “Stealth Mode” section describes an overlay that “stays completely hidden during screen sharing so no one sees it but you.” Those are LockedIn AI’s own words about its own product. Worth knowing before you rely on that promise: there’s a documented reliability complaint pattern across third-party reviews (Trustpilot and Reddit) reporting that the overlay does not always hold up in practice — the window can still appear in the screen-share stream despite the “invisible” marketing. We haven’t independently tested it, so we’re reporting the documented complaint, not a verdict.

SyntaxCue takes a narrower, more literal approach and describes it plainly: it has an optional setting that keeps its hint window out of your own screen-capture stream, so that if you share your screen, your private hint window isn’t part of what your machine broadcasts — the same way notifications stay off a shared screen. That setting is off by default, and you can turn it off at any time. And a reminder that applies to any interview tool: many interviews and most proctored assessments require you not to use outside assistance — follow the actual rules of your specific process.

Choose LockedIn AI if…

• You need support in a language other than English, or want regional accent/dialect handling (42 languages).
• You want a built-in mock-interview practice mode to rehearse, not just live help.
• You want an adjustable-transparency overlay you can tune visually.
• You want human-in-the-loop help via Duo, with a live person able to assist in real time.
• You prefer a fully managed cloud product and don’t want to handle an API key.

Choose SyntaxCue if…
