Refund Policy
14 days, no hoops — the complete policy, not just the one-line version.
Updated 2026-07-31
Because you can fully test SyntaxCue for free before buying, refunds are for technical issues or accidental purchases — email within 14 days and we’ll refund you, no hassle. No proof of a defect, no video evidence, no “why do you want a refund” questions. You get around 10-15 free hints before you ever pay, so the intent is that you’ve already confirmed it works for you before purchasing — which is exactly why the window is a straightforward 14 days rather than something longer or more conditional.
How to request a refund
Email us within 14 days of purchase — the same address used for everything else, on the Contact page. There’s no refund form, no self-serve refund button in the app, and no separate ticketing system. A real person reads it and processes it.
For EU buyers: the statutory withdrawal right
EU consumers have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal for digital goods by default. At checkout, this is waived only if you tick an explicit checkbox — something like “I agree to immediate access and waive my 14-day withdrawal right.” If you don’t waive it, you keep that statutory right regardless of our own policy above.
In practice both land in the same place — 14 days — but the legal basis differs: for EU buyers the right can be statutory, while for everyone else it’s simply our stated policy. We mention this so the distinction is accurate, not because the outcome changes.
Who processes the refund
SyntaxCue has no payment infrastructure of its own — LemonSqueezy is the Merchant of Record and handles the actual payment and refund. One thing worth stating plainly: LemonSqueezy reserves the right to issue a refund at its own discretion within 60 days of purchase, independent of our stated policy. This isn’t a loophole we’re adding for our own benefit — it’s how LemonSqueezy’s own chargeback-prevention process works. We’re disclosing it because it’s a real mechanic that affects you, not hiding it in fine print.
What a refund covers
A refund reverses the $79 license purchase itself. It does not refund any LLM provider API usage — SyntaxCue is bring-your-own-key, so your OpenAI or Anthropic usage is billed directly to your own provider account and was never part of the $79 charge. If you want to stop that spend, manage it in your provider’s own dashboard.
After a refund, the license is deactivated. Consistent with how licensing works elsewhere, a refunded key leads to graceful degradation rather than a hard crash — see Security for how license validation behaves.
What if I'm outside the EU?
The same 14-day, no-hoops policy applies — email us within 14 days of purchase. The only difference is that the EU statutory-withdrawal mechanism described above doesn't apply to you; our own 14-day policy is the basis, and it lands in the same place.
Does a refund also cover my OpenAI or Anthropic bill?
No. That's your own API spend, billed directly by your provider — it was never part of the $79 license charge, so a refund can't reverse it. Manage or cancel that usage in your provider's dashboard.
Can I request a refund from inside the app?
No. Refunds are handled by email only, through the same inbox used for support and contact — there's no self-serve refund button or ticketing system.
Is there a deadline?
14 days from purchase for our own policy. Separately, LemonSqueezy may issue a discretionary refund within 60 days as part of their chargeback-prevention process — but the reliable path is simply to email us within 14 days.
